I can't believe we've finally reached the end of the maternity series—40 weeks of pregnancy and then some! Honestly, the time flew by so quickly, yet there were moments where it dragged on endlessly. Each week brought its own challenges, joys, and surprises.
The due date came and went without a peep from our little one. Then another week passed, and still nothing. By the time we hit the 40-week mark, I was already mentally preparing myself for the possibility of being overdue. But even as I approached the final days of my pregnancy, I wasn’t entirely ready for the emotional rollercoaster that awaited.
Last weekend, just past the 40th week, I knew it was time for the last photo in this series. Normally, I would have loved capturing that moment, but honestly, I didn’t feel like it. All I wanted was to hold my baby in my arms. So, I decided to wait.
Monday rolled around, and suddenly, everything felt different. We were told it could happen any moment now. The entire day was a blur of activity—getting things ready, spending quality time with Aliyah, and trying to relax despite the anticipation. That evening, I had a few contractions while taking pictures for what turned out to be the last time. They weren’t too intense, but they were enough to remind me that labor was near. My husband kept me laughing, which helped ease the tension.
By the end of the day, I realized something profound: this might truly be the last maternity photo I ever take. The thought hit me hard, and I found myself reflecting on how far we'd come.
That night, after finishing the photoshoot, we put Aliyah to bed and settled into bed ourselves. Around 9 p.m., my water broke, and chaos ensued. I remember jumping into the shower while my husband packed the car. Nana and Papa arrived to pick up Aliyah, and within minutes, we were on our way to the hospital.
Labor began shortly after arrival, and it was an experience unlike anything I had imagined. It was intense, exhilarating, and exhausting all at once. Seven hours later, at 1:51 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, Brayden arrived. He weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and measured 20 inches long. Daddy even caught him!
Now, as I sit here holding my precious bundle of joy, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Those final weeks of pregnancy were stressful, yes, but they were also beautiful. Every contraction, every moment of doubt, every tear—it was all worth it because here he is.
Brayden, my sweet miracle, thank you for choosing this exact moment to arrive. You’ve given us a gift beyond words. Your big sister can’t stop hugging and kissing you, and neither can I. Welcome to the world, little one. We love you more than you’ll ever know.
