Prevention and treatment of sheep urinary stone disease

This disease is the condensate formed by the precipitation of salt crystals in the urinary tract. It is embedded in the urinary tract and causes inflammation of the urethra. It is a disease of urinary dysfunction. The disease occurs mostly in adult sheep, especially rams, and there is no seasonality.

First, the cause

Based on years of clinical experience and analysis, the author believes that there are several reasons:

1. Long-term feeding of high-protein, high-calorie, high-phosphorus concentrates, especially cereals, sorghum, bran, etc., high phosphorus content, lack of calcium, easily lead to calcium and phosphorus imbalance, resulting in urinary stones.

2, long-term feeding radish, pellet feed and other root feed.

3. The lack of vitamin A in feeds, especially the long-term feeding of unprocessed cottonseed cake, leads to the formation of stones.

4, drinking water containing magnesium, salt and more, leading to the formation of stones; while drinking water is insufficient, resulting in urine concentration, resulting in excessive concentration of crystals and stones.

5. Kidney and urinary tract infections cause accumulation of inflammatory products in the urine and become the core of stones.

Second, the symptoms

Urinary stones are formed in the kidneys and bladder, but obstruction often occurs in the urethra. Bladder stones do not show symptoms when they do not affect urination. Urinary stones occur in the head of the ram and the "S" curved part. If the stones do not completely obstruct the urethra, it can be seen that prolonged urination, frequent urination, reduced urine output, intermittent or drip-like outflow, and sometimes urinary excretion; if the stone is completely blocked, the urethra only see urination but not the discharge of urine, there stomach ache.

The sheep presented with anorexia, frequent urination, dripping urine, flexion and diverging of the hind limbs, arched back curling, frequently raised tail, and external urethral palpation pain. If the stones are blocked in the head of the turtle, hard objects may be touched locally. The height of the bladder is enlarged, tense, and urine fills. If it is not treated promptly, if the time for closing the urine is too long, it can cause the bladder to rupture or cause uremia and death.

Third, the diagnosis

At the time of diagnosis, clinical symptoms were observed, and urinary frequency, anuria, abdominal pain, etc. were observed. Urine and microscopic observation revealed pus cells, renal epithelial tissue, or blood.

Fourth, treatment

1, drug treatment for the discovery of timely, mild symptoms, feeding a lot of water and liquid feed, while contributing diuretics and anti-inflammatory drugs (penicillin, streptomycin, urotropine, etc.), this method is simple, for light Sheep can only be used, and sometimes bladder puncture can also be used as an adjunct to medical treatment.

2. Surgical treatment Surgical treatment can be performed for sheep with incomplete drug treatment or complete occlusion of the urethra. Limit drinking water, puncture the enlarged bladder, discharge urine, while intramuscular injection of atropine 3 mg -6 mg, relax the urethra muscles, reduce pain, and then use the surgical treatment in the corresponding stone location, cut the urethra and remove stones.

3, postoperative care after nursing is the key to the rehabilitation of diseased sheep, to feed liquid feed, and diuretic drugs and anti-bacterial anti-inflammatory drugs to strengthen postoperative treatment.

V. Prevention

In the usual feeding period, long-term high-protein, high-calorie, high-phosphorus concentrate feeds and root and pellet feeds cannot be fed, and feeds rich in vitamin A are fed; timely treatment of urinary organ diseases prevents urinary retention. Usually feed more succulent feed and increase drinking water. In addition, for the treatment of sick animals without treatment value, early elimination.
