Kale variety and its characteristics

1. Precocious species

This type is characterized by strong heat resistance. At higher temperatures (27-28°C), flower buds can be rapidly differentiated, and reducing the temperature has no significant effect on flower bud differentiation. It can be cultivated directly from mid-April to early August. The main varieties are:

(1) Early leaves of young leaves are Guangzhou farm varieties. The leaves of the plant are oval in shape, dark blue-green, and the leaves are smooth and multi-waxy. The base is deeply split into ear-like lobes. The main medlar is medium in height, with white flowers and tight floral balls. The main rake weighs 30-50 grams, and its texture is crisp and strong. From sowing to early harvest 60 to 65 days, continue to pick the side for 30 days.

(2) Willow Early Blue Kale introduced from Guangzhou. The plants are more erect, the leaves are long oval, gray-green, the main pod is weak, the growth potential is medium, and the quality is delicate and brittle. From sowing to early harvest 60 days or so, continue to harvest 30 to 40 days.

(3) Heat resistant kale blue introduced varieties in Guangzhou. The plant has a moderate growth potential. The leaves are broadly ovoid, with smooth, dark green leaves. The size of the main flower buds is moderate, with an average weight of 30 grams. From sowing to early harvest 60-65 days, continued harvesting for about 30 days.

2. Medium maturity type

In Beijing, it has strong adaptability, heat resistance, and high yield compared with early-maturing species. It can be sown according to market needs, suitable for open field and protected land cultivation, and the annual production supply market. The main varieties are:

(1) Dengfeng Kale Blue introduced varieties from Guangzhou. It has wide adaptability to cultivation, good quality of vegetables, neat appearance, sparse main festival, thin, fleshy and crisp, very popular among consumers. Generally, main flower buds weigh 50 to 70 grams, strong branching force, consistent convulsions. From sowing to early harvest 65 to 70 days, continue to harvest for up to 50 days. The first side buds are even better than the main ones.

(2) Foshan, China's late-season blue, introduced varieties in Guangzhou. The plants are taller, strong in growth, strong in branching, and oval in shape and smooth. The main pods are longer and more hypertrophic, and the curds are larger. The main pods weigh 50 to 200 grams and are less crispy and soft. From sowing to early harvest for about 70 days, continuous harvesting can spend up to 70 days.

(3) The height of Taiwan kale plant is about 30-35 cm. Basal leaves oval, with wax powder. The main stem is thick, stems and leaves are oval, and the main flower is 80-150 grams. Lateral calyx germination medium.

3. Late-maturing type

The heat resistance of the two types of wood is lower than that in the middle of Foshan and the middle of Chinese mustard blue in Taiwan. Lower temperatures and prolonged periods of low temperature can promote flower bud differentiation, and flower buds can also differentiate at higher temperatures, but it takes longer. This type of cultivar is cultivated in Beijing in spring and summer, and the total yield of this type of cultivar is higher than that of early maturing type.

(1) The "Kame Village Copper Shell Leaf" kale plants are tall and thick and grow vigorously. The leaves are nearly round, with a thin texture and less wax powder. The leaves are slightly wrinkled and the leaf margins are slightly curved inwards, shaped like shells. Leaves base deeply lobed into ear lobes. The main flower bud weighs about 100 grams, crisp and tender, less fiber, strong lateral buds. From sowing to early harvest 70 to 80 days, continue to harvest side bud 50 days. The cultivation in the protected area performed well, generally yielding 2,500 kilograms per mu.

(2) The “three-in-one-late-flowering” Chinese kale plant has strong growth potential, thick stems, large leaves, nearly round shape, smooth foliage, and less wax powder. The main flower bud is long, with an average weight of 150 grams, crisp and tender, and has a good flavor. Medium branching force. From sowing to early harvest for about 80 days, strengthening water and fertilizer management can continue the harvest for 60 days, yielding about 2,500 kilograms per mu.
