New research shows that **replacement therapy does not increase the incidence of prostate cancer

According to a paper published online in the Journal of Sexual Medicine on June 6, 2012, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) appears to be safe and does not increase the incidence of prostate cancer.

Mark R, Research Fellow, University College London, UK. Dr. Feneley and Dr. Malcolm Carruthers, a researcher at the London Men's Health Center, conducted a recent study to analyze the incidence of long-term prostate cancer in men undergoing TRT. The researchers reviewed the clinical data of 1365 patients (mean age 55 years) who were suffering from androgen deficiency and were undergoing TRT (granular implantation, testosterone undecanoate, megestrol and testogel) treatment. Clinical data is tracked for up to 20 years. All patients were screened for prostate cancer before treatment, and their endocrine, biochemical, hematological, and urine profiles required a baseline assessment and were performed every 6 months.

After 2966 man-years of treatment, the researchers found a total of 14 new cases of prostate cancer (one case after treatment every 212 years). The average diagnosis time was 6.3 years (range 1-12 years). The ratio of testosterone replacement therapy to total prostate-specific antigen (t-PSA), free PSA (f-PSA), or f-PSA to t-PSA did not produce statistical significance. influences. The researchers did not observe any link between initial PSA changes and subsequent prostate cancer diagnosis.

The authors of the papers wrote in the article, "This study provides considerable evidence that testosterone replacement therapy is safe for the prostate gland with appropriate clinical monitoring, while also improving early prostate cancer detection. For individuals, Testosterone replacement therapy that is regularly monitored by the prostate may be safer than any other therapy that is not monitored."
