Prepare meat pigs before fattening

(1) House Disinfection: Before introducing pigs into the house, it is essential to repair, clean, and thoroughly disinfect the facility. A 2% to 3% sodium hydroxide solution can be used for spraying the entire area, while walls should be scrubbed with a 20% lime milk powder solution to ensure effective disinfection. After raising the pigs on the ground, the manure in the pens should be completely removed and replaced with a fresh layer of soil to maintain hygiene and reduce disease risk. (2) Purchasing High-Quality Piglets: It's important to select healthy, vigorous piglets from good hybrid combinations. Choose piglets that are active, have a good body weight, and show no signs of illness. These characteristics are key to successful fattening and better growth performance. (3) Vaccination: Suckling piglets must be vaccinated according to local veterinary guidelines against diseases such as classical swine fever, erysipelas, hog cholera, and paratyphoid. For piglets purchased from markets or external sources, it's crucial to complete all necessary vaccinations immediately upon arrival to prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases and minimize losses. (4) Deworming: Pigs are commonly infected with roundworms, especially those between 3 to 6 months old. Effective deworming agents include imidazole and levamisole. For ectoparasites like lice and mites, a 2% trichlorfon solution can be sprayed over the pigs' bodies. The bedding should be changed regularly, and the spray should be applied once a week after treatment. All areas where pigs come into contact, such as the pigpen and feeding areas, should also be treated. Additionally, adding ivermectin to the feed is an efficient way to control nematodes and lice, providing long-term protection with minimal effort.
