(2) Purchasing High-Quality Piglets: It is crucial to select healthy, high-quality piglets that come from good hybrid combinations. Look for piglets that are active, have strong vitality, and show no signs of illness. These characteristics ensure better growth performance and lower mortality rates during the fattening period.
(3) Vaccination: Suckling piglets must be vaccinated according to veterinary guidelines against diseases such as swine fever, erysipelas, plague, and paratyphoid. For piglets purchased from external sources, especially those from trading markets, it's important to fully vaccinate them upon arrival to prevent potential outbreaks of infectious diseases, which can cause significant losses.
(4) Deworming: Pigs are commonly affected by roundworms, especially young pigs between 3 to 6 months old. Medications like tetramisole, levamisole, and others are typically used for deworming. For external parasites, lice are the most common and can cause serious health issues. A 2% trichlorfon solution is often sprayed over the entire body of the pigs. The bedding should be changed regularly, and the area should be sprayed once a week after treatment. All surfaces that pigs come into contact with should also be treated. Additionally, adding ivermectin to the feed can help eliminate nematodes and lice effectively, making it a convenient and efficient method for parasite control.
