A report released by US researchers on the 7th showed that they analyzed data on influenza cases in Wisconsin, USA, from 2007 to 2009, and found that the risk of serious consequences of the H1N1 flu was not higher than that of seasonal flu.
Researchers at the Mayfield Clinical Research Foundation in Wisconsin, USA, reported in a new issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association that they compared the symptoms of influenza A (H1N1) and seasonal flu in a specific population. The researchers screened patients who reported symptoms of fever, chills, or cough and had less than 8 days in the outpatient or inpatient department to determine if they were eligible for the study. During the flu season from 2007 to 2009, a total of 6874 patients agreed to participate in the study.
The data show that there is no "significant difference" between the risk of serious consequences in patients with influenza A (H1N1) and other influenza patients. In addition, children with H1N1 flu have no increased risk of severity or serious consequences compared with children with seasonal flu.
