In order to raise people's awareness of AIDS, the World Health Organization designated the 1st of each year as the World AIDS Day in January 1988, and called on countries and international organizations around the world to organize relevant events on this day to publicize and popularize the knowledge of AIDS prevention. In November 2011, relevant experts said that since the launch of the Guan Ai Plan, more than 3,000 grass-roots AIDS doctors have been trained, and the theme for 2012 will be the simultaneous promotion of treatment and prevention.
The concept of AIDS Day came from the 1988 meeting of the Minister of Health of the People's Republic of China on the AIDS Prevention Plan.
Since the discovery of the world’s first HIV-infected person in 1981, AIDS has been raging in the world for more than 30 years. It has become a major public health issue and a social issue that has attracted the attention of the World Health Organization and governments of all countries. In order to call on the peoples of the world to act together and unite to fight AIDS, in January 1988, the World Health Organization held a ministerial-level meeting of the “Global AIDS Prevention†in more than 100 countries in London. On the 1st of the month, World Aids Day; in January 1996, UNAIDS was established in Geneva; in 1997, UNAIDS changed the name of World AIDS Day to the World AIDS Campaign. "Movement" makes AIDS prevention and control throughout the year.
Purpose of establishment
First, let people know that AIDS can be controlled and prevented on a global scale;
Second, let everyone know that one important factor in preventing AIDS is that everyone is responsible for their actions;
Thirdly, through the AIDS Day propaganda, people's sympathy and understanding of people living with HIV are aroused, because their physical and mental illnesses have been plagued by the disease. Moreover, some people living with HIV may be passive and innocent.
Fourth, it is hoped that everyone will support the plans formulated by their respective countries to fight AIDS so as to arouse the people of the world to take joint action to support this work.
