A groundbreaking study conducted by U.S. researchers has revealed that it's possible to regrow hair by cultivating new hair follicles, offering hope for those suffering from baldness. For years, it was widely believed that once hair follicles were lost, they could not be regenerated. While treatments like hair transplants and medications can slow down hair loss or cover bald spots, there was no effective method to stimulate new hair growth in areas where it had been lost. This recent discovery, published in the journal *Nature*, changes that perception. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania conducted experiments on mice, removing large sections of skin from their backs and observing the healing process without any treatment. They found that as the wounds healed, a key gene known as Wnt became active. Wnt genes are typically involved in hair follicle development during embryonic stages, but this study showed that they can also be reactivated in adult skin. The activation of Wnt allowed skin stem cells to migrate to the wound site and regenerate hair follicles. Scientists are now working to control these genes more precisely, aiming to encourage hair regrowth on bald areas while preventing unwanted hair growth elsewhere. This breakthrough could lead to new, non-surgical treatments for hair loss in the future. ——Midi Medical Network
