How to feed turtle feed properly

Turtle feeding plays a crucial role in the overall success of turtle farming. Proper feeding and management are essential factors that influence the growth, health, and productivity of the turtles. The quantity and timing of food directly impact their development. If underfed, turtles may grow slowly and take longer to reach market size. On the other hand, overfeeding can lead to digestive issues such as gastritis and increase the risk of secondary infections. Many farmers still follow improper feeding practices, which can negatively affect the turtles' well-being. Some feed only once a day, leaving the turtles hungry for the rest of the time. Others might feed in the morning but skip the afternoon meal, which is not ideal for their digestion and energy levels. According to research, the feeding rate varies depending on the turtle's weight. For turtles weighing 3 to 50 grams, the feeding amount should be around 5% of their body weight. For those between 50 to 150 grams, it’s about 3.5 to 4%, and for turtles weighing 150 to 300 grams, the feeding rate should be around 2.5%. When the turtle exceeds 300 grams, the feeding rate drops below 2%. In addition to the amount, the timing of feeding is also important. It is best to feed soft-shelled turtles within a 1 to 1.5 hour window to ensure they consume the food properly and avoid waste. Consistent feeding schedules help maintain their health and optimize growth. By following these guidelines, farmers can significantly improve the efficiency and profitability of their turtle farming operations.
