When the two proteins are in the same plant, the stigma will reject the pollen and cannot reach the result of pollination.
Arabidopsis has a high degree of self-propagation, but when the researchers placed the SCR and SRK genes, they produced pseudoself-compatible, that is, when the pollen was unable to come from other plants. Only self-pollination will occur. Prof. Nasrallah said: “This is a very good strategy for plant mating, because almost no media is required to receive it.†Another researcher Pei Liu also found that the PUB8 gene in the genome is likely to regulate SRK performance because of the PUB8 gene. The mutation is closely related to the phenomenon of false self-pollination. From an evolutionary point of view, the PUB8 gene may be a key gene that regulates pseudoself-pollination to the plant's "self-incompatibility".
